The Private schooling journey: Step 1 Deciding

Context

Although we have considered privately schooling our son since we found out we were expecting him the decision earlier this year (2026) to make it happen did not come too easily. Some of the questions that came to our minds include:

  • How will he adapt to the experience?

  • Is this the best thing for him?

  • Will it be too intense in terms of scheduling complexity?

  • What do we need to do to make sure he keeps a solid friends and social network?

Letting other people know

The responses when you tell people about your decision varies from “wow” to “we’ve always wanted to do it, let us know how your experience is” to -in a couple of occasions- a bit of shock and reactive defense for the traditional education system and everything else in between.

What we do know and gave us comfort to embark on this experiment

  • Small group learning beats large group learning. Everyone recently heard through a certain podcast about a specific school about Bloom’s two sigma problem.

  • Galileo was open to it and endorsed the plan

  • We were going to hire a professional teacher

  • Galileo does a lot of activities and most of those activities are continuing.

  • He has quite a few friends and he easily makes new ones.
