2024 Science Experiments

During 2024, I did some science experiments with my son Galileo, this is a record of some and the plans for others:

The aspiration is to ignite/nourish/accelerate his interest in science, the scientific method and a curiosity about how the world works:

Some goals:

• Hands-on fun: do it yourself, a lot of laughs.

• Understanding Materials and Forces: The elements of the universe and the fundamental forces: Gravitational, electromagnetic (will probably skip weak and strong nuclear forces for now) and Derived forces (mainly friction, spring and buoyant forces)

General Themes:

• States of Matter: Solids, liquids and gas.

• Properties of matter: conductive, malleable, soluble,

• Light, heat, electricity

• Forces: Gravity, magnetism, friction, buoyancy, elasticity, applied mechanical force.

Ideas for experiments:

• Does it float

• Does it conduct: electricity and heat

  • Cold and hot

• Expanding gasses

• Ph tester with acid and base mixing

• Baking soda balloons

• Mirrors

• Rainbow

• Speed of sound

• Fan + different types of wings for lift

• Tuning forks and vibration

• Magnets and magnetization

• Conductivity

• Levers and pulleys
